  • 1 divide into two parts of equal size.

    ■ share (something) equally with another person.

  • 2 reduce or be reduced by half.
  • 3 Golf use the same number of strokes as an opponent and thus draw (a hole or match).
  • 4 (usu. as noun halving) fit (crossing timbers) together by cutting out half the thickness of each.
