1 a rhombus or diamond shape.
■ Heraldry a charge in the shape of a solid diamond.

2 a small medicinal tablet, originally diamond-shaped, for dissolving in the mouth.

– origin ME: from OFr. losenge, prob. derived from the base of Sp. losa, Port. lousa ‘slab’, late L. lausiae (lapides) ‘stone slabs’.
